In a decisive operation against insurgents, Nigerian troops have freed 75 civilians from Boko Haram captivity in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. The rescue mission, carried out under Operation Desert Sanity IV, was led by the 21 Special Armored Brigade and the 199 Special Forces Battalion.

Speaking in Maiduguri on Monday, Major General W. Shaibu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, revealed that the rescued individuals included seven adult men, 34 women, and 34 children. Represented by Brigadier General A.L. Akpodu, the Deputy Theater Commander, Shaibu stated that the operation targeted key terrorist hideouts in Ukuba, Ujimla, Sabil Huda, Garin, Fajula, and Gobara.
“Our troops launched a successful offensive, neutralizing insurgents and dismantling their operational bases, weapon stockpiles, and bomb-making facilities,” he said.
Following their rescue, the freed civilians underwent medical evaluations and psychological support before being handed over to the Borno State government.
Receiving them, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, commended the military for its bravery. She assured that the government would provide the victims with counseling, mental health care, livelihood support, and education for the children to ensure proper reintegration into society.
