Sokoto state Government Inaugurates Hisbah Board, Emphasizes Justice and Equity
In a significant move to uphold Islamic morality and promote social harmony, Governor Aliyu of Sokoto State has inaugurated the Hisbah Board, a religious law enforcement body tasked with ensuring compliance with Islamic principles in the state. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Government House in Sokoto, was attended by religious leaders, government officials, and community representatives.
Speaking during the event, Governor Aliyu underscored the importance of the Hisbah Board in fostering moral values, maintaining peace, and addressing societal challenges. He noted that the board would play a pivotal role in guiding citizens to uphold ethical conduct in line with Islamic teachings.
However, the governor issued a stern warning to Hisbah officers, cautioning them against abusing their authority. He emphasized that their mandate must be executed with fairness and compassion, ensuring no innocent citizen is unjustly targeted or persecuted. “The Hisbah Board must lead by example, acting as guardians of morality and justice, not as instruments of oppression,” Governor Aliyu stated.
The Hisbah Board will collaborate with traditional and religious institutions to address issues such as substance abuse, indecent behavior, and other social vices. Governor Aliyu assured that adequate resources and training would be provided to enable the board to carry out its duties effectively while respecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.
The establishment of the Hisbah Board is part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen community engagement and promote societal well-being. While the move has been lauded by many for its potential to restore order and morality, others have urged the government to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations.
