Police Officer Allegedly Shoots Former LG Chairman in Bauchi
The Zone 12 Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the detention of a police officer accused of shooting Alhaji Danlami Alhassan, a former Chairman of Ningi Local Government Council, in Bauchi.
SP Thomas Goni, the Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 12, made this known on Monday, assuring the public that a comprehensive and impartial investigation is underway.
“The officer involved has been identified and will face disciplinary action in line with the Force guidelines. We understand that this incident has generated a lot of tension and concern within the community. We want to assure the public that we are taking this matter very seriously,” Goni stated.
He also noted that the police would review their training protocols to improve how officers handle situations professionally and respectfully.
Recounting the incident, Alhaji Alhassan said it occurred on Sunday evening around 9:30 p.m. in the Wunti Market area of Bauchi.
“I was on my way to buy suya (roasted meat) when the incident happened. The officer, whose identity I did not know, attempted to stop me, but I didn’t comply because I wasn’t sure of his intentions.
“When I reached a populated area and stopped, the officer crossed my car. As I opened the door to step out, he shot at me from the other direction. I felt something hit my head, and blood started gushing out,” Alhassan narrated.

The officer’s identity was later discovered after a bag containing his police ID card, teargas canisters, and other equipment fell from his motorcycle.
Alhassan was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged.
The police have assured the public of transparency and promised that appropriate actions will be taken against the officer following the investigation.
