Kebbi Gov. appoints Argungun Emir to Chair committee of National Qur’anic recitation competition
The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, has been emerged the Chairman of the high-powered committee tasked with organizing National Qur’anic Recitation Competitions .

The chairman of the committee to promote the teachings of the Qur’an. He emphasized the importance of absolute dedication to ensuring the success of the event.
“I thank Governor Nasir Idris for appointing us to promote the Glorious Qur’an and uphold religious values. This is a significant task, and we are grateful to Almighty Allah for the chance to advance this noble Islamic tradition, passed down by Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” the Emir said.
He further prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the competition, Kebbi State, and the entire nation, while urging committee members to perform their duties with sincerity and commitment.
“We are hosting people from across the country, and it is our responsibility to ensure the success of this event. I am confident we will organize a memorable competition. I invite all Muslims to attend this special occasion starting December 19,” he added.
The Emir highlighted the robust support from the state government, including the establishment of 12 subcommittees to oversee various aspects of the competition. He also acknowledged the involvement of the Centre for Islamic Studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, which pioneered the competition 39 years ago.
It was also learnt that the committee is co-chaired by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Aliyu, with Dr. Nasir Kigo, Permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs, serving as Secretary. Other members include: Commissioners for Information and Culture; Animal Health, Husbandry and Fisheries; Basic and Secondary Education; Youth and Sports Development; Women Affairs; and Environment.
Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Dr. Usman Sani Tunga. Chief Imam of Birnin Kebbi Central Mosque, Sheikh Mukhtar Walin Gwandu. Representatives from the Centre for Islamic Studies provided insights into the operational structure of the competition, known as Musabaqa, and outlined the steps required to ensure a seamless event. The 2024 National Qur’an Recitation Competition promises to be a spiritually uplifting and culturally enriching event for participants and attendees alike.
