Governor Mutfwang Honors Late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, Advocates for Reconciliation in Plateau
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has paid tribute to the late Lt. Gen. (Sen.) Jeremiah Timbut Useni, describing him as a beacon of hope, generosity, and national service. The late statesman was laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Langtang.
Speaking at the funeral service held at COCIN RCC Langtang in Langtang North Local Government Area, Governor Mutfwang lauded Gen. Useni’s contributions and called for genuine reconciliation among the people of Plateau State. He emphasized the importance of unity and peace in honoring the late General’s legacy.
Quoting Ecclesiastes 7:8—“The end of a matter is better than its beginning”—the Governor highlighted how Lt. Gen. Useni dedicated his later years to fostering reconciliation and peace. He urged citizens to follow this example to ensure harmony and progress in the state.
On behalf of the government and people of Plateau, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the late General’s befitting burial. He also acknowledged the outpouring of condolences from across Nigeria, including a personal message from former Military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
Reflecting on Gen. Useni’s legacy, the Governor praised his unwavering commitment to national unity and Plateau’s development. While recognizing human imperfections, he commended Useni’s emphasis on reconciliation and forgiveness in his final years.
“It is natural for people to offend one another, but true virtue lies in knowing when to let go, when to reconcile, and when to forgive,” Governor Mutfwang stated. “Unity cannot exist without forgiveness, and reconciliation begins with God.”
He prayed for God to inspire a spirit of reconciliation in Plateau and across Nigeria, expressing hope for a new era of peace and development in the state.
