Fake Soldier Arrested in Lagos for Abduction and Robbery
The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has detained a 42-year-old suspected impersonator of the Nigerian Army, accused of abducting and robbing a man of his valuables.
The RRS disclosed the arrest on its official X handle, @rrsLagos767, on Wednesday, stating that the suspect, a dismissed army sergeant and ex-convict, was apprehended on Saturday at the Ikeja Underbridge.
“The suspect was apprehended by police operatives after being spotted by one of his victims around Computer Village, Ikeja,” the RRS stated.
Investigations revealed that on December 30, 2024, the suspect accused his victim of stumbling into him, claiming he had lost a gold ring in the process.
“He claimed he lost a gold ring in the process and that his victim must produce the ring for him,” the RRS said.
The suspect allegedly impersonated an army officer, displaying a fake identification card and threatening to take the victim to the Oshodi Army Barracks if the ring was not produced.
According to the police, the suspect invited an accomplice on a motorcycle and forced the victim onto the bike.
“On the pretext that they were taking the victim to Army Cantonment, they drove him to Third Mainland Bridge, collected his iPhone 13 and money, and abandoned him there,” the RRS said.

It was further revealed that the suspect sold the stolen iPhone 13 for ₦150,000 at Computer Village in Ikeja.
Recovered items included a Nigerian Army cap and a fake military ID card. Investigations also confirmed the suspect had been previously arrested and imprisoned for a similar crime in 2024.
The suspect has been transferred to the Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad for further investigation.
