EFCC Issues Official Statement on Very Dark Man’s Arrest and Detention

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released an official statement addressing the arrest and detention of Martins Innocent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man.

According to the anti-corruption agency, Otse was invited for questioning following multiple petitions alleging financial misconduct. However, he allegedly failed to respond to several invitations sent to his known addresses.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, the EFCC stated that the petitions contained serious allegations that warranted thorough investigation and could not be ignored.

While acknowledging Otse’s public criticisms of its activities, the Commission emphasized that his arrest was based solely on the weight of the allegations and not influenced by his comments.

The EFCC confirmed it had obtained a valid Remand Order to legally detain Otse. He has since been granted administrative bail and will be released upon meeting the set conditions.

The Commission also noted the public interest surrounding the case and urged the public to avoid making assumptions about its motives, calling for support in allowing the agency to perform its duties without undue interference.
